Takutai Moana
Cultural Monitoring
The Takutai Moana health index is a cultural monitoring tool developed by Patuharakeke Rohe Moana Committee. This was built into the yearly pipi surveys undertaken between 2016 and 2023 ongoing.
Tohu (indicators) are different things we may notice or look for in order to tell a story about the health of the immediate takutai moana (coastline/beach) you are at.
This can then help to grow the understanding of different māhinga mātaitai (kaimoana gathering) areas which can go on to inform hapū-led management actions.

Vision
A healthy rohe moana that enables us to sustain our whanau and kainga and manaaki our manuhiri with kaimoana.
